Today we did more than build objects. Today we lifted souls. There was a change in the type of work. We distributed backpacks and school supplies to those who would struggle with purchasing these things for their children. Many faces were all smiles as people received their supplies. Our group also prepared produce for a food distribution that was held at the Morgan Scott Project site. Still more smiles were shared. And that was all before lunch! Some of the group mowed the lawn and cleared brush at the Project, while the rest of the group sorted through donated clothes that would eventually end up in the thrift store. Several people also found some awesome, cute and handsome clothes.
We saw God in the people that got backpacks, in the people that received food, and in the cooperation of our group while we sorted through bags upon bags of clothes.
This trip has informed us of the lifestyles and incredible attitudes of the less fortunate. We expected them to be less happy because of their financial standing, but they were some of the joyful people we’ve ever met. We are already wondering whether or not we will be able to come back to the area next year to reunite with the new friends we’ve made. Our group has grown closer through laughing and assisting others in a very short week.
