The Chi Rho (6th-8th grade youth) are on a mission trip with F.A.S.T. (Faithful Advocates Serving Together). They are serving at the Morgan Scott Project of Tennessee helping to restore homes and love our neighbors in the Appalachian mountains.
Each day the youth will share pictures and stories from their day. Here is the report from day 1 from Team Fabulous: Abbye Reynolds, Savannah Caulder, Sam Gray, Taryn Gillaspy and Tommy Buckey
This morning we had to wake up at 6:30 AM after only a few hours of sleep to get to the worksite…. and none of the guys (except Ben) got much sleep because Sam was snoring!!! It was pretty cold for July, 58 degrees. We arrived at the office and met Ella, who talked to us about FAST and the Morgan-Scott Project. We drove to the worksite and met Mrs. Wanda and then we stained her porch and her wheelchair ramp. It got A LOT hotter while we were out there. We didn’t finish the whole thing today but we’re going back tomorrow so we can get the job done! On the way back to the church, we stopped for ice cream to celebrate our hard work. When we got back, some of us went swimming while the rest stayed back and just relaxed for a while… and enjoyed the air conditioning. Now we are preparing to eat a great dinner, worship, and join in prayer partners. We saw God today in the dog Daisy who lived at Ms. Wanda’s home, in Ms. Wanda and her great welcome of us and that she remembered us from last year, in each other as we encouraged each other and worked together, and in the amazement that so many people have come from all over the country to volunteer their time and help in this small corner of the world.
